According to a poll by the Expat explorer survey, over 65% of single expats found love in their new country and over 80% felt that moving overseas had given them a new lease of life.

If you are looking for love or would simply like a new adventure, here are the top five locations where you are most likely to find it.


The renaissance architecture gives the city it’s fairy-tale atmosphere, one of the best places to find love around the world or for lovers of art. Inspiration can be taken from the legendary works by Michelangelo and Botticelli or from admiring the fabulous views from the top of the Duomo.

The friendliness across the city makes it easy to socialise in the jam-packed restaurants, cafés and bars.

Phoenix: Arizona

With 30% of the population identifying as single in Phoenix, it’s an ideal place to slip into a relationship, according to research by Facebook.

As well as enjoying a hot climate for most of the year, the city also has a fast growing music and arts scene, making it a great place to socialize and even meet that special someone.

Vocative has also ranked Phoenix as the 10th most liveable city in the U.S. for people under 35, due to affordable housing and the availability of jobs.



Shanghai was once called “the Paris of the orient” and is one of the best places to find love around the world. If you are interested in adventures thrills and a place where living costs are relatively low then moving to this city could be for you.

The city has a growing jobs market and provided you have a good degree it should be easy to find employment.

The growing expat community of young sophisticated professionals means there are plenty of interesting people to meet.


Another hot-spot for love is Amsterdam. The Dutch are very sociable and as soon as the warm weather arrives everyone hits the parks and the canals.

It’s very easy to strike up conversation with new people and the fact that long working hours are uncommon means that people have more time and energy to look for love.


San Francisco

In San Francisco there are over 4,500 bars and restaurants within a 7sq mile area, making it a great place to socialize. It has a vibrant outdoor fitness scene with many public parks and jogging clubs, making it the ideal place to get fit and meet people at the same time.
